Weekly Update (10/31/2017)

We are thankful that our God answers prayer! Last week, our meeting for this past Sunday Night had to cancel. We prayed and asked the Lord to open up doors for us to be able to present in another church that evening. The following day, the Lord allowed us to get in touch with a pastor who welcomed us to be with their church for that Sunday evening service. Because of this, we had the chance to be with two different churches in North Carolina on Sunday as well as a church in Tennessee this past Wednesday. Tomorrow we will be in the Atlanta area for a meeting before we head to Tennessee on Sunday and Ohio on Monday for meetings next week. The Lord is good to us!

This past week, I also had the opportunity to sit down and talk with mentor and mission board director Jeff Bush about his book Thriving in Life: Choosing to Encourage Yourself in the Lord. Bro. Bush is a veteran missionary whom the Lord used greatly in Argentina and continues to use here at our mission board. You can see the interview on our Facebook page here, and we are also going to be giving away a few copies of his book through the video on our Facebook page, so you will not want to miss this opportunity!

“Eigo hanasemasu ka?” (Can you speak English). This might be a handy phrase to know when traveling in Japan, but don’t be surprised if you are told no. While English is part of standard education, few people speak it. Wonder why? See the news section below.

From the News

Sometimes I get asked how much English people in Japan know. As a general rule of thumb, most people do not speak English in Japan. While English is taught in schools, the overall level of functional English is surprisingly low. To learn more about this, you will want to read this article on our website.
