Beginning in 2024, Reaching Japan will host 3 reconnaissance tours (Spring/Summer/Fall) in lieu of mission trips.
What is a Recon Tour?
Reconnaissance tours are specifically designed to help people see Japan’s need for the Gospel, see how to get involved, and see what working and ministry in Japan look like.
If you are
1. Asking the Lord what He wants you to do with your life OR
2. Specifically praying about doing ministry in Japan
then this trip is for you.
Those looking to simply see the sights and have a good time need not apply. Serious ministry inquires only.
Application Process
1. Fill out the application on this page ($35 application fee).
2. We will review applications and contact references.
3. We will invite qualified applicants to participate in a group interview via Zoom.
4. After the group interview, we conduct personal interviews.
5. Those selected for the Recon tour will be invited to participate and join us in Japan.
Only applicants with strong references, a track record of church involvement, and a good public testimony will be invited.
Typical participants are high school seniors and college students, but all strong candidates will be considered. If you already have experience in the work force but are seriously considering ministry abroad or missions in Japan, we encourage you to apply.

Spring 2024 Recon Tour: March 9 – 16 (Saturday through Saturday during Spring Break)Application Deadline: December 31th, 2023applications closed
- Summer Recon Tour: August 3 – 10 (Saturday through Saturday before School starts back)
- Application Deadline: May 30th, 2024
- Fall 2024 Recon Tour: November 23 – 30 (Saturday to Saturday during Thanksgiving Break)
- Application Deadline: August 25th, 2024
- Spring 2025 Recon Tour: March 8 – 15 (Saturday through Saturday during Spring Break)
- Application Deadline: December 31th, 2024
Participants will be responsible for purchasing their plane tickets in addition to paying $900 USD to cover costs while in the country. From the U.S., plane tickets typically range from $1800 ~ $3000 depending on when they are purchased and where you fly from.
Tours will be approximately 8 days. You will arrive on Saturday and return to the U.S. on the following Saturday.
