Days for the Dead (8/13/2019)

This week, our part of Japan is in the middle of Obon. Obon is not technically a holiday, but many people take off to visit family. It is a time that is much like the Day of the Dead in Mexico. People believe their ancestor’s spirits come home during this time. As you can imagine, it is a very sad and demonic time in Japan.

This past weekend, our city had several events going on downtown. While there were some activities that you might expect in any city (such as a parade), idol worship is very prevalent. While passing out tracts at this event, it was sad to see so many people involved in something that cannot save them.

On a lighter note, we had two first-time visitors come to church this past Sunday. We also had a lady come for the first time last Thursday as well. Please continue to pray for the church here in Niigata!
