As we enter into the second half of 2019, we are in the middle of rainy season in our part of Japan. However, despite being in the rainy season, we have had several days of sunshine! People here have been telling us that after the rainy season, summer arrives in full swing.
Thank you all for praying for the Father’s Day event last month. While we did not have the turnout expected, we are grateful for the time to try new things and gain experience working in Japan. Please continue to pray for the Hill family as well as Hope Baptist Church (the church plant here in Niigata).
On Sunday nights, I am teaching basic Bible truths. With Japan being an advanced country, it is easy to assume that people might know what the Bible says. That is not the case. Simple things that we might consider basic knowledge in the States are often unknown here in Japan. We are grateful that the Lord allows us to share God’s truth in a place where people have no strong foundation.
Here is an example. The church here has an online question box where people can anonymously ask questions. One person recently wrote to say they have done bad things in their past but try to deal with the guilt by doing volunteer work and not talking bad about people. However, doing these things doesn’t take away the guilt. “Can god forgive a person like me? How can I be forgiven?” they asked. Questions like these show us once again that people do not have a knowledge of the truth.
We have had a college student come several times on Sunday nights. He has not gotten saved yet, but we are grateful for those the Lord has been bringing our way. Please continue to pray for us as we make contacts and invite people to the church. Please be praying for the Lord to work in people’s hearts and for people to get saved!
Yours for Japan,
The Miyashita Family
