Hello from JAPAN! (1/8/2019)

This is a picture overlooking the area near the church. As far as we know, we are are the only gospel preaching work in this area for all of these people.

Last week in our monthly prayer letter, we shared with you that we were departing for Japan from Atlanta. This week, we write to you from Japan! We have almost been in Japan for about a week now and are working to get things set up for living here.

The Lord was with us as we departed for Japan. While we had several extra bags/suitcases for our flight over, the airline ended up not charging us anything extra for the bags. We also received all of our luggage in one piece on the arriving end. On top of that, we were able to smoothly make our connecting flight from the Narita airport onto our short flight to Niigata where the Hill family has been working.

Our first Sunday in the country, Bro. Hill allowed me (James) to help with leading the music at the church. They also began an afternoon service and he allowed me to preach that service. It has been exciting to see how the Lord is already at work through the Hill family here at this church plant!

Rosie and Silas are doing well. Silas is still working on getting over jet lag and has been waking up about once or twice during the night. Rosie is already starting to pick up a few phrases here and there in Japanese.

Please pray for us as we are currently in the middle of finding a place to live. We are currently in a temporary arrangement but would like to find a place soon. Today we looked at four places with one that we really liked. If you would, please pray that this place works out and we can begin moving in soon.

From the News

Recently, a school in Japan announced that only white surgical masks could be worn to school, thus banning colored ones (blue, pink etc). To see the reasoning behind this ban as well as learn why people wear masks to school in the first place, you will want to read this article.
