How do we go deeper?
As you read the Gospels, it becomes clear that Jesus’ disciples had only a partial grasp of things and that their understanding grew deeper as time went on. Jesus began where they were but didn’t want them to stay where they were. He went deeper. What would that look like for people today? This month we have been pondering how to help others get a better understanding of who Jesus is.
Deeper in English Outreach
One way we have been trying to go deeper is through our English outreach. For the last several months, we have been hosting an English conversation event as a way to connect with new people. This month, we offered an English Bible study afterward to go deeper in those conversations. One participant stayed! We will offer another study after the October English outreach.
Deeper in Personal Relationships
Another area we are trying to go deeper with is personal relationships. While relationships are important to sharing the Gospel, they cannot be an end to themselves. Rosie took steps this month to go deeper and invite multiple mom friends to get together and study the Bible. Several agreed to come, including one who was particularly eager to learn more. Please be praying for these ladies who attend the Bible study on October 1st.
Deeper with Families
A third area we are trying to go deeper in is our monthly kids’ club outreach. Although there is always a theme verse and a short Bible lesson, we have been thinking through what it would look like to go deeper with the families that attend. As a result, we are planning a Family Sunday inviting these families to lunch and a casual time learning about Christianity. This is scheduled for October 11th.
As we enter the 4th quarter for the year, we are thinking through how to recruit and involve more people in the work here. Next March, we will be hosting another recon trip to help people see life, ministry and culture in Japan and discern next steps toward ministry. We are also collaborating with another missionary family in Japan to host a trip in June specifically for couples who are praying about serving in Japan.
