While our last prayer letter was sent off just before we left from the Atlanta airport, we write you this prayer letter from Japan! With no bags lost and an on-time arrival, our trip to Japan went smoothly. The airline agent did not charge us extra for our bags and we arrived in Japan on time with no lost luggage! Thank you all for your prayers. The Lord continues to look after us, even in little things like luggage.
On our second day in Japan, we went to get active phone numbers to use in Japan. From there, we proceeded to look for a house. There were a number of places we had looked at online, and one in particular that we were really interested in. While we were able to take a look at the place, the landlord was very specific that they did not want the residents to talk to neighbors about religion or do any religious work there. While we were crushed, the Lord had better plans for us.
We found another place that is 10 minutes from the school Rosie is planning to attend in April. It is also a short drive to Hope Baptist Church where we get to serve under the Hill family. We were able to begin renting and moving the last Saturday in January. We are now in the process of making the house a home and a base of operations while we are here.
Setting up can seem tedious with all of the details to consider, but things have been going well. Because of this, we hope that Rosie will be able to get a language tutor and jump start her language studies before the month is over. She is already picking up sounds and phrases. I am very confident that she will do well. Silas had a little bit of difficulty adjusting to the time difference but is now doing much better. He is almost (but not quite) crawling.
Please continue to lift up Hope Baptist Church and Bro Hill as he leads the work here to get the church going. During February, he will be preaching a series of messages around the topic of “Love.” Please pray for Bro Hill as he preaches the Gospel! Additionally, I (James) have been leading the singing at the church and preaching the afternoon service they just started in January. As we go through the Gospel of John, please pray that those coming will believe on Jesus!
Yours for Japan,
The Miyashita Family
